Care, simplified…

Donohoe Pediatrics is a membership-based, concierge pediatrics practice.  That means we work for you.  Not for insurance companies or employers or big hospital systems.  Just you.  This is a fundamental difference from what has become the norm in primary care medicine.

Our practice model allows us to partner with families to understand their child's health, their personality, their challenges, and their goals. It enables us to approach pediatric care in a proactive, meaningful way. It encourages us to provide truly personalized recommendations and to stay engaged with families as their child navigates through today's fast-paced world.

FAQ

Do you take insurance?

Yes and no. Donohoe Pediatrics is an out-of-network provider and we do not accept insurance for our medical services. (They are all covered by the membership fees.) However, upon request we can generate a billing receipt that you can submit to your insurer for covered services such as well-child visits and sick visits. Reimbursement varies significantly from plan to plan. Please consult with a representative from your insurance company for your policy's details.

We DO use your insurance to cover the following:

  • Your child's standard childhood vaccinations. We administer the vaccines and bill your insurance company directly.
  • Annual flu shots for our patients and other family members.
  • Tests that need to be sent out and processed by an external lab.

What is included with the membership?

  • Comprehensive, individualized well child care with unhurried appointments and convenient scheduling
  • Unlimited sick visits (acute or chronic care)
  • Newborn visits (first 3) in your home plus at least one home visit from our certified lactation consultant
  • Direct access to our care team via our practice app
  • Virtual visits and remote care while you are traveling
  • Coordination and follow-up with specialists
  • The peace of mind that comes with knowing you have a team of board-certified, experienced, thoughtful physicians who are managing the health and wellness of your children

Do you offer house calls?

Yes. Schedule permitting we are willing to see your child at your home for an additional charge. (Note that for newborns the first 3 visits are done in your home for no additional charge.)

Home visits are typically limited to the following area: Touhy Ave on the north, Central Ave. on the west, Roosevelt Rd. on the south and the lake on the east.

What about expectant parents?

We offer complimentary meet and greets to discuss the upcoming arrival of your newest family member. After your baby is born we will conduct the first 3 newborn visits (at 3-5 days, at 2 weeks and at 1 month) in the comfort of your own home.

At which hospitals do you have privileges?

Our physicians have privileges at Lurie Children’s Hospital and at Prentice Women’s Hospital.

Are you willing to provide ‘virtual’ medical visits?

Yes, of course! We have been providing virtual care using our secure practice app since 2017. Practice members can message us and send pictures or videos directly to our providers. We also offer virtual (video) visits (well child checks or sick visits). In many cases questions can be answered and diagnoses can be made (or ruled out) without an office visit. This saves families time and money and it is covered by your membership fee.

What if my child gets sick when we are out of town?

Given the small size of our practice, our providers have the benefit of knowing your family well and of knowing your child and his/her medical history. We will do as much as we safely can via phone, text and video. This long-distance care may include calling in a prescription to a local pharmacy or directing you to a local urgent care or ER should further evaluation or testing be required.

What is your position on vaccines?

We are advocates of vaccines and we feel strongly that administering them based on the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommended schedule is one of the most important preventative care measures that any physician can offer. Immunizations have saved more lives than any other medical advance.

ARE YOUR PROVIDERS BOARD CERTIFIED?

Yes. All of our physicians have been certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
